Self – Love Note ❤ Dialogue With Your Emotions

Self – Love is essential to feeling nourished, thriving, and being at ease in yourself. Your well being is at the root of all of what you'd like to create, do, and offer in the world. Imagine, if we each loved ourselves, what a difference it would make!

Each week, I share a Self – Love Note for you to experiment with and add onto your own ways of treating yourself with love. These include ways to love and care for yourself on all levels — your physical being, your energy body, your emotional and spiritual self, and your development of consciousness. Feel free to share with me your experience and your favorites.

Dialogue With Your Emotions

Last week, we explored Body Love with the outermost layer of our physiology: the Physical Level. This is the most manifest and concrete level of who we are.

This week, we go more inward…

The last two weeks, we gave attention to the Physical Level and the Energetic Levels of the our being with loving and balancing practices.

Let’s go even more inward this week to the Mental/Emotional Body. How can we relate to our mental and emotional being with great respect?

Mental/Emotional Body

We often think of the mind as just our thoughts and our brain. In Yoga and Ayurveda, the first mind is in the gut, where information is stored, which feeds into the brain above, the second mind. That means everything that you take in through all five of the senses is food that the mind needs to process. Consider what you hear, see, feel, experience, think, taste, and touch as part of your lived food intake that needs to be digested.

In Sanskrit the mental/emotional layer of our being is called Manomayakosha. It is the third level of the physiology going inward and gives expression to the energy and the physical body. Thus, if we bring balance and healing to the Mental and Emotional Level of the body, we also bring balance and healing to the Energy and Physical Bodies. Mano, means the mind.

Past experiences that are left incomplete, especially where they were upsetting or overwhelming and we instinctively wanted to do something different than what happened, or experiences that those in our lineage had before us that are unprocessed and unfelt can be passed down and remain here to be digested.

We can support our mental and emotional parts with Somatic Experiencing, Somatic Therapies, body-centered healing, Tantric and Vedic practices, moving through emotions, dialoguing with parts of our inner self.

Feel and Dialogue With Your Emotions

  • Bring your palms over your heart and connect inward.
  • Approach your sensations and emotions as information that the body is offering you. Notice what you feel.
  • Allow the feelings to be present and honor them with respect. Thank them for being there.
  • If you would like to go a level farther, ask your emotions or sensations and listen inward with openness without filter (rather than thinking or analyzing):
    • What message do you have for me?
    • What would you like me to know?
    • What do you need from me?
  • Give yourself whatever you need by imagining it and feeling what it would give you. Or give it to yourself in real life if that is possible.

Just a reminder to be gentle with yourself as you practice this, as this may not come so easily at first, especially the asking and listening. Sometimes we think about it or we want others to behave in a certain way or do something. Shift the focus to something you can give yourself from the heart space.
