Self-Forgiveness ❤ Self – Love Note

In Mid January, one of my favorite poets, Mary Oliver, died. To celebrate her beauty I’d to share a piece of her poetry that resonates with me right now in my life.

I did think, let’s go about this slowly.

This is important. This should take

some really deep thought.

We should take

small thoughtful steps.

But, bless us, we didn’t.

“I Did Think, Let’s Go About This Slowly,” from her elegy to her partner

So many times we have an intention for ourselves and we misfire, end up somewhere else, or do something we didn’t desire. Sometimes we don’t even notice it — until we do!

If you’re like me, perhaps it worked in the past to push or criticize yourself, and it motivated you.

Is there any reason now to be hard on yourself now?

Practice Forgiveness

Give yourself some grace.

Forgive yourself.

Forgive yourself for what you haven’t done, what you feel you should’ve done, should do, didn’t do, how you acted, or what happened.

You are worthy of forgiveness.

Forgiveness is a way to support your movement forward — to learn and grow — and to ease towards what you DID intend or desire now. It makes space for the possibilities in the moment and the opportunity to respond differently towards yourself and therefore towards the world. This is loving yourself and having compassion. You are human and you are “in training.”

If you’d like to bring a practice of forgiveness into your life or in this moment, try any of these words that I integrated from my own healer, Charmayne Kilcup, or create the combination that’s just right for your heart.

  • ❤ I forgive myself.
  • ❤ I forgive myself for ____.
  • ❤ I forgive myself for judging myself for ____.
  • ❤ I forgive myself for judging myself for believing ____.
  • ❤ I forgive myself for all the times and places that I _____.

Notice how you feel inside — your body sensations, emotions, images, impulses, and movements. Allow these to be present and accept the feelings as you can. Notice your breath or use your breath to support you. These feelings are the visceral experience related to what you’re forgiving yourself for. Let these move through you and get support if you need.

Practice this in small moments or in big ones. Repeat as desired!

Your Support Means So Much!

If The Embody Podcast, my writing, or guided healing meditations have inspired you, helped, or spoken to you, it would mean the world to me if you would show your support through a small donation.

Each creation is lovingly made from my soul and takes anywhere from weeks to a few days to develop and produce. I gladly pay an editor who supports me in polishing and creating high quality content.

As little as $2 help nourish my podcast and other creations to continue to have life and cover costs.

You can also take a look at my offerings which can deepen your embodiment on your own journey. Proceeds from those offerings also help me in the creation of more resources and material.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart! I am so appreciative.
